Washington, D.C. – Today on Tuesday, February 4 at 4:45pm ET, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) will join other members of Congress and organizations to call out Musk’s hostile takeover of the Treasury Department.

President Trump has handed over the keys to the federal government and its checkbook to an unelected billionaire. He’s invading financial systems that hold all Americans’ addresses and personal information. This information is used to send out Social Security checks, Medicare reimbursements, and tax refunds–upwards of $5 trillion in transactions a year. 

“I will not stand idly by while Elon Musk illegally seizes control of payments systems at the Treasury Department. This is nothing short of a hostile takeover of our government. This kind of reckless action puts Medicare, Social Security, and other essential payments at risk for working families who depend on it. I’ll be outside Treasury today to say: No unelected billionaire should have control of the government and private information,” said Rep. Becca Balint.
