Rep. Becca Balint Condemns Political Violence

“I want to be on the record condemning political violence in any form.”

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement ahead of her vote on H.Res. 719:

“I'm voting yes because we need to take a stand against political violence. Like so many Americans, I'm sick of the dehumanizing and demeaning rhetoric. And it’s incumbent upon leaders to use our platform to take the temperature down. I want to be on the record condemning political violence in any form. With this resolution, Republicans have tried to use this moment to polarize us further by bringing a cynical and divisive resolution to the floor. This vote should not be interpreted in any way as agreeing with the hurtful, offensive things that Charlie Kirk has said.”

“I agree with Kirk on almost nothing. And I will also stand firmly with the First Amendment and against violence in any form. What I do agree with him on is that the answer to speech we don't like is more speech. We must all continue to fight to protect the first amendment as censorship from the White House grows.”
