Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) was officially sworn in as a Member of the House of Representatives for the 119th Congress, her second term. She is the sole representative for Vermont in the House of Representatives. In 2023, she became the first woman and first LGBTQI+ person to represent Vermont in Congress. Following her swearing in, Rep. Balint released the following statement: “It’s the honor of my life to continue my service as Vermont’s voice in the House of Representative,” said Rep. Becca Balint. “Today marks the start of another two years of fighting for Vermont’s priorities to lower the cost of housing, improve mental health and health care, combat climate change, protect reproductive rights, strengthen our democracy, and fight for equality. The challenges that lay ahead are great, but they present an opportunity for Vermont’s values to shine the way forward for our country. And I’m more ready than ever to take on these challenges. I’m committed to a future where every Vermonter is heard and their needs are met.” In the 118th Congress, Rep. Balint served on the House Judiciary Committee; the Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government; the Subcommittee on Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust; and the House Budget Committee. She served as Vice Chair for New Members of the Progressive Caucus; Co-Chair of the Equality Caucus; and Vice-Chair of the Equal Rights Amendment Caucus. ### |
