Balint Statement on the U.S. Postal Service Reopening Montpelier Post Office

Montpelier, VT— After 15 months without postal services in Vermont’s capital city, the U.S. Postal Service announced the opening of a retail location at 89 Main Street in Montpelier, with a ‘Grand Reopening Celebration’ on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement:

“It’s been more than a year and three months since families, small businesses, and seniors in the Montpelier area have had a full range of postal services and a fully functioning post office. A result of constant pressure and activism from our communities, postal workers, and local, state, and federal leaders, postal services will once again be restored in the Montpelier community.

“Postmaster General DeJoy failed our state’s capital by stalling restoration and leaving the community without answers for months, adding real hardships to a community already wrecked by flood damage. USPS cannot continue to leave small and rural communities behind.”
