Rep. Becca Balint Named to Committee on Oversight and Accountability for the 118th Congress

Washington D.C
- Representative Becca Balint (VT-AL) has been named to the Committee on Oversight and Accountability in the 118th Congress.

“I am honored to join the Committee on Oversight and am excited to get to work on urgent democracy reform under the leadership of Ranking Member Jamie Raskin,” said Rep. Becca Balint. “Democracy has been under attack, and I am committed to using all the grit and courage I have to protect it. I’m thrilled to join Oversight Democrats, who are dedicated to advancing the critical work required to maintain a healthy democratic system.”

“At the heart of the Oversight Committee’s jurisdiction is ensuring our government works for the American people. I plan to bring reason and clarity to a committee that Republicans will use for political games.”

“I’m ready to do the hard work to ensure our government works for Vermonters, including our rural communities. I look forward to using this position to demand high-quality, adequately funded mail service through the United States Postal Service. Americans deserve reliable service and efficient federal government agencies.”

“I’m excited to welcome to the Oversight and Accountability Committee Rep. Becca Balint, whose passion to make government work for the people will be a major new boost for our Committee.  I look forward to partnering with Rep. Balint to defend the truth this Congress and ensure an effective and efficient government that works to promote the common good,” said Ranking Member Jamie Raskin.

Rep. Balint’s legislative focus will remain on protecting freedoms and fundamental rights for people on the margins. Her position on this committee will allow her to hold government agencies accountable while protecting civil liberties.

The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the main investigative committee in the House of Representatives. The committee is tasked with ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the federal government and its agencies. The committee has wide ranging authority including jurisdiction over federal civil service, federal government operations, the District of Columbia, and the United States Postal Service.

Balint joins the committee under the leadership of Ranking Member Jamie Raskin.
