During wartime, Balint Advocates for Peace and Security in Region through Direct Dialogue with Israelis and Palestinians

Washington, D.C - Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement on the Congressional Delegation to Israel and the West Bank:

“During one of the most devastating and pivotal times for the region in modern history, it is crucial for me to engage directly with Israelis and Palestinians. What the region needs now is to swiftly reach a ceasefire agreement, safely return all hostages, administer robust humanitarian aid, and find viable long-term solutions for Israel’s post war government and who will govern Gaza.

“I’ve never shied away from tough conversations and this delegation visit is no exception. I’m deeply concerned by the deadly offensive on Gaza.  We need real, immediate solutions to end this suffering, and we must find a way to ultimately get to a two-state solution. While there are extremists on both sides holding us back from this goal, it is imperative we push forward with consistent dialogue and diplomacy. Without it we keep Israelis and Palestinians from having safety, security, and a promise of a better future for their children and grandchildren.

“I look forward to further understanding the rich and complicated history of the region from a variety of viewpoints.”

Rep. Balint and her colleagues will meet with senior Israeli officials, family members of hostages, Palestinians living in the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority, and UN officials.
