Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement following President Donald Trump inauguration: “My attendance today served as a reminder that supporting our democracy means we don’t only attend the peaceful transfer of power when our candidate wins. As we move forward into a critical time in our nation’s history, I’m choosing calm. Not because I’m blind to the dangers we face, but because this moment requires calm, focus and a clarity of purpose. As we heard outlined today, there is so much at stake, we can’t afford to get distracted or lose focus. Our very democracy is on the line. The work ahead will be challenging, hate and fear mongering serve to distract us. I want Americans to know: nothing will stop us in our fight for freedom, true equality, affordable housing, the planet, and a fair shot for every working family to thrive.” “Today, I’m reminded of the following quote from Martin Luther King Jr: ‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.’ “It’s time we face the challenges and attacks ahead with courage and clarity. I’m ready for the work ahead to defend our Constitution and will be working tirelessly to address the urgent needs of Vermonters and working people across America.” ### |
