Washington, D.C. – Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) released the following statement on the anniversary of the January 6, 2021, insurrection:

“As I prepare to fulfill my duty to certify the election today, I’m reminded of the attack on our Capitol and our democracy four years ago. It’s essential that we ensure that such an assault on our democratic process is never repeated, by strengthening our democracy and standing for the constitution. Democracy doesn’t work if we only accept it when our candidate wins. We cannot take for granted that democracy can be fragile and requires us to fight for its future. 

“Today, I’m also honoring the lives lost, those injured, and the sacrifices officers made to protect our nation’s Capitol and the peaceful transfer of power from violent attack.”
