HHS Assistant Sec., Admiral Rachel Levine Joins Rep. Balint for Health Equity Roundtable

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s tireless work for equitable, affordable health care has been transformational for so many working families.”

Burlington, V.T.  – Yesterday, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) was joined by Assistant Secretary for Health, Admiral Rachel L. Levine, MD for a LGBTQI+ health equity community roundtable at the Vermont Pride Center.

As Assistant Secretary for Health, ADM Rachel Levine fights every day to improve the health and well-being of all Americans. She's working to help our nation overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and build a stronger foundation for a healthier future - one in which every American can attain their full health potential. ADM Levine also is the head of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, one of the eight uniformed services.

“The Biden-Harris administration has prioritized, really from day one, our efforts to advance health equity for LGBTQI+ Americans,” said Adm. Rachel Levine. “While we continue to make progress, we all have more work to do to truly transform health care to support LGBTQI+ individuals and address multiple disparities that persist.”

“I’m so thrilled to welcome HHS Assistant Secretary Admiral Rachel Levine to Vermont today. The Biden-Harris Administration’s tireless work for equitable, affordable health care has been transformational for so many working families,” said Rep. Becca Balint. “This kind of discussion is essential to continuing to move the needle forward to equitable health care for the LGBTQI+ community. The Admiral and today’s group of experts understand that we must protect the freedoms of families and individuals to make their own choices about their bodies. I’m so proud to represent a state with such strong protections for the LGBTQI+ community and look forward to working with Admiral Levine on strengthening federal protections so every American gets the health care they need.”

Rep. Balint is a co-chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus and the first openly gay person and woman to represent Vermont in Congress. She is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and an original cosponsor of the Equality Act.
