Rep. Becca Balint Announces 2024 Congressional Art Competition Winner

Castleton, VT – Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) announced the winner for the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. This year, 90 high school students from 12 counties and 24 schools across Vermont sent in artwork for submission to the annual competition. The Congressional Art Competition was established in 1982 by Vermont Senator Jim Jeffords.  This year’s winner from Vermont is Cora Chivington, a junior at Green Mountain Tech Center in Hyde Park, Vermont. Her art will be on display with other 2024 Congressional Art Competition winners in the US Capitol.

“I’m so proud to be carrying on the tradition of Congressional Art Competition. This incredibly impactful legacy in Vermont is a moment to recognize and celebrate the arts and our youth. As a former teacher, as a mom, as a writer, I know how essential it is to foster creativity, a love of the arts in our students, and to make it a continued priority in schools.”

“I want to congratulate Cora Chivington for receiving the Grand Prize for her piece “Light of Hunger” in this year's Congressional Art Competition. I’m blown away by her work, and I look forward to seeing a piece of Vermont every day in the US Capitol.”
