Rep. Becca Balint Votes ‘Yes’ on the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act

“As a mom of two teenagers, I share the concerns of parents across the country that TikTok in its current form poses a threat to mental health, data privacy, and national security. But let’s be clear: the legislation that the House considered today does not ban TikTok, rather it requires divestiture by ByteDance and the sale of TikTok to an American company. This bill is a chance to allow users to access the app without risking the collection of their personal data from China.”

“While social media has created a global community and become a place for connection, we also know that we must take action to regulate social media sites and ensure we safeguard our kids from their known damaging effects. As a mother and former teacher, I see these effects firsthand. This bill is a step toward protecting Americans — especially younger generations — from user data exploitation and harm to mental health and safety.”
