Representative Becca Balint

Hi folks,

  • This morning at the Department of Education I called out Trump and Musk’s intention to defund and close the department. My colleagues and I demanded to speak to the acting secretary and conduct oversight of the department, but we were denied entry.

DeptofEducation

Parents and grandparents want their kids to do better than they did. How's that going to happen? Education. This isn't possible if Trump closes the Department of Education. It's absolutely outrageous that they want to take money away from our kids to give it to billionaires.

Watch my remarks here.

  • There’s a lot of legislative activity happening to resist Trump and Musk as well. Here are a handful of highlights that I’ve signed on to:

    • Demanding the Trump Administration to release a list of all programs, projects, and activities currently frozen under this executive order

    • Urging Trump to rescind Canada tariffs

    • Demanding oversight on Elon Musk and his team’s access to the federal government’s payments system

    • Demanding an investigation into Elon Musk’s conflicts of interest as a now Special Government Employees.

  • Dozens and dozens and dozens of you have asked for a list of actions to take to help this constitutional crisis. Here are some ideas. This is not exhaustive. Do what you can when you can.

    • Encourage your friends and family in other states to call their Republican representatives.

    • Join a peaceful protest or rally in your community.

    • Check in on your friends, especially if they are part of a targeted community.

    • Put your communications channels to work. Document. Show the truth.

    • Read books like On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder and Twilight of Democracy by Anne Applebaum to understand the signs and pathways to authoritarianism.

    • Learn more about or join organizations that are doing a great job in protecting the community.

    • Participate in and engage with your local government. It’s critically important to stay involved at the local level.

    • Rest when you need to.

  • SAVE THE DATE: Telephone Town Hall on February 26th. Stay tuned for the confirmed time in the coming days. Hope you’ll join for an important community conversation.
